Last nature arch: L-Għarb Area, Gozo

In the photo, you can see a natural arch located on the island of Gozo, Malta, in the L-Għarb area. This location is known for its picturesque beauty, making it one of the iconic symbols of the island’s natural heritage. The arch is situated near the site where Malta’s famous landmark, the Azure Window (It-Tieqa Żerqa), once stood.

The Azure Window, one of the most recognizable natural arches in the world, collapsed on March 8, 2017, during a powerful storm. This limestone formation, which stood at approximately 28 meters tall, had been shaped over centuries by the forces of waves and wind. The arch was not only a natural wonder but also a part of popular culture, serving as a backdrop for movies and TV shows, including “Game of Thrones.”

Today, the Dwejra area, where the arch in the photo is located, remains a popular destination for tourists thanks to its unique natural attractions. In addition to the arch, visitors can explore other landmarks such as the Inland Sea and Fungus Rock. These spots appeal not only to lovers of stunning landscapes but also to divers, who continue to explore the underwater structures formed after the collapse of the Azure Window.
