On the island of Gozo, one of the most iconic structures attributed to giants, according to local legends, is known as the Ġgantija Temples (the Giant’s Tower).
This megalithic temple complex is considered one of the oldest structures in the world. Legends say that giants carried massive boulders from one place to another, creating these monumental constructions. One local story tells of a giantess who lived in the Qala area of Gozo. She survived solely on beans and once carried a massive menhir from Ta’ Ċenċ to her field, where she used it as a resting place. After a drought destroyed her crops, she disappeared into a cave believed to be a portal to another world.
