But it’s no coincidence that this house is located so close to the old Inquisitor’s Palace.
Dating back to the 16th century, this house used to be the residence of the executioner and his family during the times of the Order of St John and the Inquisition. Look at the executioner’s symbol, an eye sandwiched between two axes! It can still be seen engraved at the top of the window.
The axes are an obvious symbol of the profession, while the eye possibly alludes to the divine gaze and divine judgment passed by the executioner.
