My favorite location for a yacht getaway 🙂. Popeye Village, also known as Sweethaven Village, was created in 1979 as a film set for the movie Popeye, starring Robin Williams. Built in Anchor Bay, this charming wooden village, consisting of 19 colorful houses, became a beloved tourist attraction after filming was completed.
Interesting facts about the village:
1. Construction: The village was built using wood imported from Canada and the Netherlands to achieve an authentic look.
2. After filming: The site was transformed into a theme park offering live animation, interactive shows, and fun activities for families.
3. Beauty of the bay: Anchor Bay is famous for its crystal-clear waters and picturesque cliffs, making it a perfect spot for relaxation and photography.
The sunken ship:
Close to the village, there is a sunken ship that was part of the movie set. It’s now a popular diving attraction and a unique underwater experience. I hope that next season, we’ll be able to enjoy disembarking directly from the yacht to explore this magical location!
